Cleaning and Maintenance
British Wool supports the WoolSafe programme around the World.
WoolSafe, which was established in 1991, is a world-wide testing and certification programme for manufacturers of carpet cleaning chemicals, spot removers, soil and stain resist treatments and other products used to maintain or enhance carpets and rugs. Products are tested to performance standards set by The WoolSafe Organisation. All approved products are subject to annual re-evaluation to ensure they continue to meet the WoolSafe requirements.
WoolSafe accreditation means that the product:
- has been independently tested and approved for use on wool carpets and rugs, meets the highest standards of performance,
- is both safe and effective,
- is regularly monitored for compliance.
Since October 1998 The WoolSafe Organisation has operated an accreditation scheme for professional carpet cleaners, called the WoolSafe Approved Service Provider (WASP) programme.
This accreditation programme aims to be the best and all Approved Service Providers are fully trained in all carpet cleaning techniques and specifically in wool carpet and rug cleaning and maintenance. They have been in business continuously for a period of at least 5 years and use WoolSafe approved products whenever they clean or maintain wool or wool-rich carpeting.
The WoolSafe Approved Service Provider programme:
- trains, examines and accredits leading cleaning companies,
- requires the use of WoolSafe-approved products thereby ensuring the highest standards in wool carpet and upholstery cleaning and maintenance.
The WoolSafe Approved Product and and WoolSafe Approved Service Provider certification marks are owned and used by the WoolSafe Organisation.
