To meet the increasing demand for traceability, this season, we were selling a limited range of 100% traceable wool as a pilot scheme.
This wool was sold to Harrison Spinks, Devon Duvets, Woolroom and Luna Textiles.
The traceable wool attracted a significant premium over and above the auction price, this additional value is being returned to British Wool’s members.
On the back of this years success and moving into the 2022/23 season we will be able to offer any lot out of our Bradford, Galashiels, Newtown and South Molton Depots as fully traceable.
They will only be offered as traceable where customers are willing to pay our premium for the product. Moving forward we anticipate continued growth as we bring more brands on board with the scheme.
Woolroom is a leading supplier of high quality sleep solutions (duvets, pillows and mattresses). Historically their wool was not purchased through the British Wool scheme, this changed at the end of 2021 when they joined the British Wool traceable scheme.
Why did you choose British Wool’s traceable scheme?
As the largest supplier of British wool they were always the logical choice however what impressed me the most was the level of detail that they go into when grading their wool. Having seen this first hand across a number of depots this gives me the utmost confidence that the wool we are using in our products is the best and most appropriate available ensuring our products perform to the highest standards over their lifetime.
Why is traceability so important?
At Woolroom we are committed to supporting the hard-working British farmer and this partnership allows us to do just that. Not only are we connecting consumers with the farmer through our Wool ID branding and innovative QR codes on the finished products, we are also helping to ensure the farmer receives a premium payment for their wool.
What are your plans moving forward?
We anticipate strong growth in the UK market as consumers increasingly look for more sustainable products and also realise the immense benefits of sleeping under and on top of wool. We also sell to the US market and this part of the business is growing at a considerable rate, the US consumer is loving the traceability back to UK farms.
