Edward Clay
Felt wadding, nonwoven & needlepunch fabrics. After working for the Ossett Board of Surveyors, Edward Clay with his son John started the business as rag and mungo merchants in 1870.
In 1889 they moved the business from Prospect Road to our current headquarters on Wesley Street in Ossett and this eventually allowed them to expand into manufacturing. The business diversified into manufacturing flock and felt for the bedding industry, and this remains a core part of the business to this day.
John and Antony’s respective sons, Edward and John (5th generation) joined the business and it continues to expand and modernise. Diversifying again, it now also services the horticultural and packaging industries as well as various other sectors.
More recently, Luke (6th generation) has joined the business and with more commitment to innovation than ever before the company continues to prosper.
