Shearing Course Update from Richard Schofield

After a busy season of training over 800 future shearers, Shearing Manager Richard Schofield reflects on how the season has gone. “The season started with uncertainties on whether or not we had the green light to go ahead and when we did, it was full steam ahead.”

“We certainly had to adapt to ensure we were running our courses in line with government guidelines and we thank our host farms, shearing instructors and trainees for adhering to these guidelines.” He continued “It was very encouraging to see so many people taking advantage of our Young Farmers shearing initiative.”

He concluded “We are all very much looking forward to next season and are already planning our courses, once finalised these will go live on the website.”

Not only have the team been running the usual shearing courses but we have also had Duncan, Ellis and Imogen going through our new Shearing Training and Development programme. All three trainees have been awarded a Bronze seal in Machine Shearing and look to progress further as they continue with their training programme into 2022.
