Meet the team: Amanda Knighton, Stamford Intermediate Depot Manager
Amanda Knighton is our Intermediate Depot Manager at the Castle Bytham site near Stamford:
Tell us a little about your background:
I have always been an ambitious person. When I left school I worked my way from Secretary to Company Secretary. I then took a sabbatical whilst I had children and they went through school. I always kept my hand in by volunteering at the school and my son’s football club.
I returned to more serious work ventures from 2010 when I started looking after my husband’s accounts and a few other part time jobs. I joined Central Wool Growers in November 2016 as Office Administrator – it’s from there my interest and connection with British wool started.
When did you start working with British Wool?
Just recently, on 1st March 2021, I previously worked with Central Wool Growers (CWG). As soon as I started at CWG I wanted to be Depot Manager, I am quite ambitious and always want to do better!
Give us an example of a typical working day for you during the summer months.
An average day consists of arriving at depot around 7.30am, opening up ready for the day and catching up with overnight emails prior to everyone else turning up. From around 8am the telephone starts to ring constantly through most of the day, with enquiries and producers booking their wool in. In between calls I am busy at wool intake and also in preparing daily logs & receipts. Before you know it 4.30pm has arrived and it’s time to close up and prepare to go home.
What motivates you day to day in your work?
To get in as much wool as possible and to beat my targets. To make it a happy environment to work in and to make sure the producers are left feeling appreciated after a visit to my depot.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy my garden, our two grandchildren, our two crazy Spaniels and relaxing with a good book and some meditation.
