British Wool celebrated the achievements of the Welsh world champions with a special presentation at the Royal Welsh Show in Builth Wells.

The team took top honours in the Golden Shears World Shearing & Woolhandling Championships at the Royal Highland Show on 25th June. Gwion Lloyd Evans (machine individual and team winner), Richard Jones (machine team winner), Ffion Jones and Sarah-Jane Rees (woolhandling team winners) were presented with framed certificates and a special goody bag. The bag included a duvet and pillow set kindly donated by British Wool’s premium bedding licensee Woolroom.

Andrew Hogley, CEO British Wool commented: “The Welsh team really smashed it out of the park at the World Championships. We are so proud of them and wanted to mark their achievement at the Royal Welsh Show too. The wool bedding in the goody bags will ensure that our world champions will sleep well and be ready to defend their titles in 2026 in New Zealand!

“As a mainline sponsor of the championships, it was particularly exciting to see that many of the competitors had previously attended British Wool shearing courses and are now doing so well up against the best in the world.”

Gwion Lloyd Evans said: “It was such an honour to win the world championship in June, it really was a boyhood dream of mine. It was great to catch up with British Wool at the Royal Welsh Show and hear how they are continuing to support the next generation of shearers through their excellent training scheme. I know I certainly benefitted from this at the start of my career.”
